It all starts with propagating our mini Mandevillas from cuttings until they develop into mature plants.  We take our first cuttings in May from plants that have what it takes to become healthy, flourishing Mandevillas. These mother plants have passed a wide variety of tests and have the right qualities in terms of growth, flowering, and disease resistance. One mother plant can yield dozens of cuttings, which in turn will grow into beautiful Mandevillas. This process is known as propagation.

Cuttings are taken in a special environment in which plenty of care and attention can be given to the plants. Young plants are extremely vulnerable. We make sure the environment is humid enough for the cuttings to develop roots without drying out. Once these roots have developed, the cuttings are moved to a larger pot – the same pot your Mandevilla will be delivered in! During the growth process, the plant is guided using a bamboo rack or stakes. This is quite labour-intensive, as each plant needs to reconfigured several times to ensure the right shape. We do this by trimming the plants and guiding the branches along the bamboo rack.

During the winter months, we maintain the perfect temperature in our greenhouses so the young plants continue to grow. This growth process speeds up in spring, when the days are longer and lighter. In April, nearly a year after the cuttings were taken, the first Mandevilla plants will be ready to go to their new owners. We carefully select the most beautiful plants for Mandevillashop.com!
